More Than an Event: Where Students Can Become Researchers

Since 2001, the college’s Student Research Conference (SRC) has steadily grown to now become the college’s flagship event for showcasing student research. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the lively event that continues to enhance connection, refinement of communication skills and insight into studies taking place collegewide.

More than 400 student researchers attend the annual gathering that includes poster and oral presentations as participants share meaningful work across disciplines. This event unites students, faculty, alumni and campus partners to exhibit research, exchange ideas and build community. The conference includes networking and mentoring sessions with Bailey College alumni and industry professionals designed to foster career growth and scientific discovery.

“Students in the Bailey College have so many opportunities to do research, but the Student Research Conference allows them to take the next step and present their results to a broad range of other students and faculty,” said Elena Keeling, a biological sciences professor and event coordinator.

“Explaining your work to those who know nothing about it is one of the best ways to appreciate what you have accomplished and why it matters. Connecting with other researchers also really strengthens the sense of community and belonging that we want all Bailey College students to feel. In addition, the Conference is a chance for students not yet involved in research to learn about the fantastic opportunities they might pursue.”
