Hands-On Discovery, Real-World Solutions
The Bailey College is home to esteemed interdisciplinary research centers and initiatives tackling important problems facing industry, government and community.
Center for Applications in Biotechnology
The Center for Applications in Biotechnology (CAB) strives to create the next generation of biotechnologists. Students are mentored closely by expert faculty while developing and applying molecular and biological tools in partnership with industries. They learn to master problem-solving and methodologies through collaborative and hands-on interdisciplinary research with real-world outcomes.
Center for Coastal Marine Sciences
The Center for Coastal Marine Sciences (CCMS) advances interdisciplinary research on coastal marine systems to address environmental challenges while fostering discovery, outreach and collaboration with outside institutions and agencies. Students learn through hands-on fieldwork, research cruises, study abroad and laboratory experiments, many of which take place at the Cal Poly Pier on the Pacific Ocean.
Center for Engineering, Science and Mathematics Education
The Center for Engineering, Science and Mathematics Education (CESAME) recruits campus educators of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) support their counterparts in local schools. This program leads the state in designing and implementing model teacher education and professional development, and our students engage in hands-on learning by teaching to local children.
Center for Health Research
Students and faculty in the Center for Health Research (CHR) conduct transdisciplinary research for the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. Their work spans levels from the cellular to social-ecological to promote health equity in communities, improve quality of life across human lifespan and prepare the next generation of leaders in health-related fields and studies.
Kenneth N. Edwards Western Coatings Technology Center
The Kenneth N. Edwards Western Coatings Technology Center (WCTC) serves as the interface between coating and polymer industries and Cal Poly’s polymers and coatings program, bringing together faculty, students and industry partners to elevate educational and professional opportunities while expanding skills with applied research in coating and polymer technology.
