Dean’s Office Leadership
Dean E. Wendt
Dean E. Wendt is dean of the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly, a role he has held since 2017. A first-generation college student, Dean transferred to Cal Poly from Sierra College in 1989 and earned his bachelor’s degree in biology before pursuing graduate study at Harvard. He completed postdoctoral research at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and served as a faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro before returning to Cal Poly in 2002. He has since served in a range of leadership roles, including associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, director of the Center for Coastal Marine Sciences and dean of research.
Joyce Lin
Joyce joined Cal Poly’s Mathematics Department in 2013, where her research and teaching centered around applied mathematics. As associate dean, Joyce focuses on student success in the areas of support, advising, retention, care, concern and conduct. She also coordinates the diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for the college and oversees program and curriculum development and program review and assessment. In addition, Joyce serves as the college liaison for graduate and international programs.
Karl Saunders
Karl joined Cal Poly’s Physics Department in 2004 after completing an undergraduate degree from Dublin City University, a doctorate from University of Oregon and a post-doctoral fellowship at Syracuse University. In his current role as Associate Dean, Karl oversees Bailey College’s facilities, budget and Frost programs. He also manages student enrollment and personnel for the College. Prior to his role as Associate Dean, he served as chair of the Physics Department.
Morgen Marshall
Morgen leads the college’s advancement strategy and external engagement efforts. She works closely with alumni, donors, faculty and university leadership to advance Cal Poly’s mission through transformational philanthropy, strategic partnerships and meaningful community engagement. As a Cal Poly alumna, Morgen is passionate about expanding access to Learn by Doing experiences, enhancing scholarship through undergraduate research and supporting innovation.
