Facilities That Innovate and Impact
From modern labs on campus to classrooms on the ocean, our spaces stimulate Learn by Doing and inspire hands-on learning, collaboration and exploration.
William and Linda Frost Center for Research and Innovation
Located at the center of campus, the Frost Center houses 102,000 square feet of state-of-the-art labs, classrooms and lecture halls for multiple colleges, including 30,000 square feet of teaching and research space for Bailey students and faculty.
Warren J. Baker Center for Science and Mathematics
This award-winning and modern building was designed for hands-on learning, interdisciplinary research and collaboration across science and math programs. Every Cal Poly student will take a class here, giving it the distinction of being a Learn by Doing hub on campus.
Cal Poly Pier
This highly unique facility brings the Cal Poly campus to the Pacific Ocean along with labs, classrooms and specialized equipment. At 3,000 feet long, the Cal Poly Pier in Avila Beach provides students, faculty, researchers and government agencies with unrivaled access to the marine environment of the Central Coast.
Cal Poly Plant Conservatory
The Cal Poly Plant Conservatory maintains a diverse, well-documented and accurately labeled living plant collection while supporting and enhancing teaching and research for faculty and students. The dedicated conservatory team has curated many rare, endangered and fascinating plant species.
Cal Poly Observatory
Both a portal to the stars and a tool for meaningful research, the Cal Poly Observatory is home to a 14-inch Meade research telescope that uses a digital camera to record images and track dimmer objects. The observatory creates advanced Learn by Doing experiences for students and community members.
Robert F. Hoover Herbarium
This specialized space is the largest repository of botanical specimens from California’s Central Coast. Containing more than 100,000 mounted dry vascular plant specimens from western North America along with thousands of unmounted specimens for research projects plus photographic collections.
WHERE RESEARCH AND LEARNING HAPPENS
On Campus and Beyond
The world and communities often serve as classrooms for our students and faculty, whose perspectives and knowledge broaden as they cross paths with a diverse range of environments, species, people and cultures.
More Bailey Buildings
Facilities across campus are home to our departments. Whether they hold deep histories with rich legacies or have more recent origins with modern elements — each building is an active space of Learn by Doing for students and faculty.
