Public Health Research: Micro and Macro View
Pictorial feature offering both a close-up and big picture view of undergraduate research
MICRO VIEW of a quantitative data graph of responses to a survey question about perceptions of C-section procedures. A Bailey College research team administered the survey, as well as interview questions, to students and healthcare providers at the Cal Poly Health Center. The research group includes Kinesiology and Public Health Professor Christine Hackman and public health majors and Frost Research Fellows Raji Kachana, Emily Robles (shown in photo) and Alison Smith.
MACRO VIEW of (from left) Kachana, Hackman, Robles and Smith in front of data graphs from their research. The group analyzed qualitative interview and quantitative survey data on reproductive health services. The study posed questions about safety and perceptions of medical abortion, birth control, pregnancy and infant delivery procedures. The survey segmented responses by demographic variables such as race, gender and political affiliation. Not shown is research group member Sarah Blankespoor, a public health major and Frost Research Scholar.
