In addition to research conferences and symposiums organized by the Bailey College each year, there are numerous research-related annual events hosted by the university and the California State University system (CSU). Students are encouraged to explore these impactful happenings as participants and/or attendees to learn, practice, grow and network.

SURP + Symposium
Student research is highlighted at this annual event jointly organized by the Office of Student Research, Bailey College of Science and Mathematics, and several other colleges, as well as in collaboration with the California Central Coast Community College Collaborative. The entire campus community is invited to learn about student research at Cal Poly by engaging with over 150 research and creative activity projects completed as part of Cal Poly’s various Summer Undergraduate Research Programs (SURPs).

BEACoN Research Symposium
The annual BEACoN Research Scholars Symposium showcases projects conducted by student and faculty teams across all six Cal Poly colleges. BEACoN stands for Believe, Educate & Empower, Advocate, Collaborate, Nurture. It’s a program run by CIX and centers on underrepresented students while open to all undergraduates.

National Undergraduate Student Research Week
All members of the Cal Poly community are invited to participate in the annual Cal Poly Undergraduate Research Week, usually held in spring. These events are part of a national celebration of undergraduate r search organized each year by the Council on Undergraduate Research.

California State University (CSU) Student Research Competition
The CSU Student Research Competition is an annual event that brings together scholars from the 23 campuses of our California State University system. The competition showcases undergraduate and graduate research, scholarship, and creative works by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments across the 23 campuses.
Current undergraduate students, graduate students and recent alumni from all academic disciplines can participate. Each year, over 200 students from the 23 CSU campuses submit written papers and make oral presentations before juries of professional experts from major corporations, foundations, public agencies, and universities in California.
